Toru Tagawa, Music Director and Conductor of the Tucson Repertory Orchestra, is proud to present the program, “String Serenade,” on 12/29/20 at 5pm. This 40-minute special performance will be streamed via Youtube and Facebook through Catalyst Arts and Maker Space by SAACA. Due to COVID-19, only a selected number of the players will perform this concert, and everyone will be socially distanced and wearing a mask. As TRO musicians have not met since early March 2020, we are very excited about finally performing together again. 

The first piece we are going to perform is the Op 6 Concerto Grosso by Corelli, called the Christmas Concerto. Although we will be performing the piece after Christmas, we hope you will enjoy the beauty of this piece. Our soloists will include the Music Director Toru Tagawa, José Leonardi Moore, and Marguerite Salajko.

The second piece is Romance in F by Beethoven. Solo violinist Emily Chao will serenade you with the help of our guest conductor Yudai Ueda, assistant director of bands at the University of Arizona. 

The last piece is Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conducted by the Music Director, Toru Tagawa. There are four movements, and I am certain that most people will recognize the piece and enjoy listening to this masterwork. 

Tucson Repertory Orchestra was co-founded by Linda Doughty-Kneifel and Toru Tagawa in 2011. Since 2012, TRO has been performing 2 concerts per year (except 2020), free to the general public. Our mission is to give highly skilled musicians opportunities to perform music written by masters of the orchestral repertoire, hence the title of our concert series, “Music of the Masters.” TRO traveled to Japan in 2015 and 2019 to rehearse and perform with Japanese musicians in Hiroshima, Okayama, Osaka (2019) and Nagoya (2019). The 2019 tour was titled “Musical Connection” (Ongaku no Kizuna) and through the act of making beautiful music together, we hope to continue making memorable human connections.
